Inexpensive ideas to boost employee morale

The rising cost of living, climate crisis, political unrest – there’s a lot of doom and gloom looming overhead, which more and more employees are feeling and is understandably tanking the morale in many workplaces.

Whether you’re a Fortune 500 company or a husband and wife pop-up shop, your employees remain your most valuable asset, so it’s important to keep your employees happy and productive during difficult times.

This doesn’t need to mean spending on surprise gifts, and introducing even bigger, better and more creative benefits. Sometimes even the simplest and most inexpensive things can make a huge difference.

Read on to discover three inexpensive yet effective things you can do for your employees, which promise to give them just as much of a boost as surprising them with a luxury birthday gift.

  1. Crown an employee of the month
An employee of the month programme is a great way to boost morale and motivate your team members. Of course, it’s really important that you aren’t biased towards certain team members. Each employee should have the chance to make employee of the month at least once.

  2. Make your office fun
For little to no cost, employers can implement programmes and activities that will make their employees smile – for example, baking competitions and baby picture contests. You could even pick up some secondhand books and board games for your employees to enjoy on their lunch break.

  3. Never underestimate the power of a simple “thank you”
Being appreciated at work matters. Not only does it improve satisfaction and boost retention rates, but it truly does improve motivation in individuals and company morale when managers simply thank their people in real time for a job well done. Discover ‘25 ways to say thank you’ here.
